Day 10 - Boulder, Colorado

One more day in "paradise" ... With lots of exciting things for the day ;-).

We woke up early as we were very excited that we would start the day with walking the trails of Chautauqua.

We decided to leave from the car park and spend about 2 hours on the trails and walked the Chautauqua trail, the Bluebell-Bair trail, part of the Bluebell Mesa trail and part of the Royal Arch trail. It was a great way to spend the late part of the morning and do some exercise as well.

We then came back to the hotel and the girls and I split up. They wanted to do some shopping and I wanted to do some motorcycle riding and together with Andres some local beer tasting ;-).

I stayed in the pool for an hour or so reading the latest news and also enjoying a very refreshing swim.

At about 2pm I was in motorcycle gear and for the next 90 minutes rode up Flagstaff Drive and also did some off-road through some very beautiful terrain.

I needed to be back at 3:30pm as Andres was picking me up and we would go to Avery Brewing Company for a tour of their facilities and also drink some locally brewed beer. It was a fascinating tour as we learned more about brewing beer and met some people with an amazing passion for their company. We also enjoyed two of their most well known brews - Ellie's Brown Ale and the White Rascal.

If you are ever in Boulder do take time (about 2 hours) to do this tour and taste some of their brews. Tour is at 4pm every weekday and 2pm on weekends.

Andres wanted to show me another smaller brewer that only brews for their own consumption and also have a very good restaurant. So after Avery we went to Under the Sun Eatery and Taphouse.

Andres had a Mexican Lager (not in above menu as it was a new brew) and I had a taster of 4 different brews (and ESB - Colorado Kind Ale, an English Barleywine - Olde Skiddy, a Belgian Pale - Peter's Pale Ale and a Rye Ale (not on the menu)). Andres and I enjoyed the Mexican Lager a lot and from my taster the one I liked the best was the English Barleywine. I wonder if the 9% alcohol content and anything to do with it ?

To accompany our beer we had some spretzels, humus and fish taco. The food was very good.

The ladies eventually joined us and we all had dinner together to end the evening. Cristina had a taste of four different dark beers (some stout and others porters). She preferred the porter.

With hosts like these and such varied and full of fun activities, you can imagine we are enjoying our stay in Boulder a lot ;-)
