Day 6 - Ouray, Colorado to Alamosa, Colorado

Today would be a 200+ mile ride through some of the most picturesque and diverse scenery you can imagine.

We woke up a bit later than usual and still had time to enjoy our room which had a very beautiful stream running just behind it. The sound of the running water was very soothing.

We were ready to leave at 10 from hotel but we first wanted to go into the town of Ouray as Paula had heard they had a sticker of Engineer's Pass that I wanted to get for the bike.

Rick and Linda and Doug and Tammie went ahead to Montrosse as Rick wanted to install an heel shifter on his Venture and we later met with them at the Yamaha dealership.

We then made our way on the US50 which is a very nice highway with fast curves and a couple of summits that we needed to get through.

We unfortunately encountered some road works that delayed our trip by 45 minutes or so. While we were stopped we met a number of other bikers and one of them was carrying an actual bicycle on his motorcycle. See how it looks and it may give you ideas ;-).

We eventually passed the roadworks and went a very nice part of US50 where we passed the large reservoir.

We then turned into 149 which we would follow most of the way and went through some of the most beautiful scenery we have seen on this trip.

We had lunch at Lake City and were reminded of when Texas was still a republic and were able to take some time for a picture and relaxing on the wooden benches while Rick and Doug went to fill bikes with gas.

We had 2.5 hours to go and we made our way East on the 149 through the Rio Grande National Forest through South Fork, Del Norte and Monte Vista towards Alamosa. The clouds on the horizon were darkening up so we stopped to put the rain gear on which also helped with the cold as temperatures were plummeting as we got closer to the storm.

As it turned out we did not get any rain and we pulled in to the Best Western in Alamosa totally dry.

We had a KFC just next door so for dinner we did chiken take out and just sat on the wooden table and bench on the back of the hotel and spoke about the day. We had to leave as the night arrived and with it a drop in temperature and some wind..

Paula did an amazing job with the pictures today so you can just flip through them and experience in 2D our ride as we followed Rick and Linda. See how varied the scenery was.

Enjoy ...
